Deciding on the perfect hairstyle for your wedding day can be overwhelming. With numerous options available, I am here to assist you in simplifying the process and hopefully making it more manageable.
I don't advise to just choose one picture of a hairstyle you like and request an identical replica. Due to variations in hair length, texture, style, and color, it is unlikely that you will achieve an exact match to the picture.
However, I can tell you, my steps in how to choose your dream hairstyle that is suitable for you and your hair.
Inspiration pictures
To begin, I recommend creating an inspiration board on Pinterest or saving images from your preferred hairstylists on Instagram. Gather all the styles you admire in one location. When you get a good collection, review them to identify any common elements. This exercise will help you determine the types of styles you prefer (such as smooth, sleek, textured, curly, boho, etc.). Subsequently, share these images with your hairstylist to discuss the aspects you appreciate in each style and any elements you do not prefer.
Remember that many images on Pinterest are heavily edited, filtered, and staged for a photo shoot, rather than being practical for all-day wear. Focus your search on styles that match your hair color and are similar in length and thickness.
Your hair
Next up, have a play around with your hair at home.
Where do you like your hair parted?
Do you like pieces of hair around your face or all taken back?
Do you like your ears covered or on show?
Do you like volume or keep it natural? Do you like to bring your hair forward over your shoulders or leave it all behind shoulders?
Knowing these details beforehand can be very helpful for your trial. Many brides are surprised by these questions since they may not have considered them previously.
Your dress
When choosing your hairstyle, it is important to consider the style of your dress. Are there any particular aspects of your dress that you want to show off? Whether it's the intricate embellishments on the neckline, sleeves, or back, keep in mind that you will be captured from different perspectives on your wedding day. Hence, make sure that your hair does not hide any elements you want to display.
Before your hair trial, if you have a dress fitting scheduled, allocate some time to experiment with different hairstyles to find the one that complements your dress the most. Test out various styles such as wearing your hair down, half up, in a low bun, and in a high bun to determine which suits you best.
Hair accessories and veils
During your trial, we have the flexibility to experiment with different hair accessories and veil placement. The positioning of these will vary based on the style you opt for and where they complement your look the most.
During your trial, I will begin by styling your hair and then experimenting with various placements for your hair accessories, capturing photos and videos for you to determine the most suitable option. The same process applies to your veil. While the majority of brides choose for the veil to be positioned midway down the back of the head, others may prefer it on top or underneath an updo.
It’s a good idea to play around with the different positions at your trial so you know for sure when it comes to your wedding day.
If you’re buying your veil from your wedding dress shop, ask if you can play around with your veil when you have your dress on.
I stock some beautiful hair accessories by The Bobby Pin which you can try at your trial. I can also get any pieces at trade price so if you look at their website www.thebobbypin.co.uk and if you see something you like, just let me know and I’ll order it for you with my trade discount!
Hair extensions
If you are concerned that your hair may not be long or thick enough for the desired style, clip-in hair extensions can be a great solution. I have several sets available for you to try during your hair trial to determine if they suit you. Adding just a few clip-ins can often create a significant impact without appearing too excessive.
