Get your hair 'wedding ready'

It's time to reduce the heat and protect your hair from heat!

Reducing the amount of heat, you put on your hair is going to make all the difference to getting your hair in the best condition for your wedding day. Now, I’m not saying that you should never apply heat to your hair but the way we use heat is important.

Here are my top tips on how to reduce the amount of heat you use and how to correctly protect your hair when you do use it:

1.    Leave your hair to air dry to about 80%. You want it to still be damp but not wet before you start blow drying. This will reduce the amount of time you are applying heat to your hair.

2.    Apply a good heat protector to the lengths of your hair. Here are some of my favourites:

Using a heat protector will create a good barrier between your hair and the heat. Most heat protectors also have smoothing ingredients in which will help reduce the frizz. Frizzy hair is a sign that your hair is dry and needs some hydration. Using a heat protector is going to help this.

3.    Blow dry your hair smooth – don’t just blast it with a hairdryer! Take the time to use a brush, create tension and blow dry smooth in sections. As your hair is almost dry, knock the heat setting down one on your hair dryer and use the cooling shot on each section. My favourite brushes are:

The ends of your hair will be almost dry so you don’t need to use a lot of heat on them. When you get to the ends move the hair dryer away slightly and use the brush to either pull the ends straight or curl under. The heat on the brush is enough to style the ends of your hair without damaging them.

4.    Adjust the heat setting on your hot tools (straighteners, curling tong/wand) to about 180 – 200 degrees. The finer your hair is the less heat you need to style, the thicker your hair the higher the heat is needed.

5.    Avoid using heat on your hair every day, give your hair a break from heat as much as possible. This is easier for those who don’t wash their hair every day. If you do wash your hair everyday why not try the heatless curls method. I recommend the Kitsch brand https://tidd.ly/3JBp90e
