Get the perfect hair for our wedding day or hair trial by following my 5 steps.
It’s important to get your hair ready for styling. If you want the best results from your hair, how you prep it is essential.
There’s a myth still floating around that dirty hair is the best to style but I’m telling you, it’s not! Dirty hair smells and will look flat. There’s no amount of dry shampoo that will revive dirty hair! There are so many products on the market now to give your hair the grit and texture it needs to hold a style, so please, pass the message on to your bridal party to wash their hair before styling.
Step 1:
If you wash your hair everyday as your roots gets greasy quickly, you’ll need to wash your hair on the morning of either your hair trial or wedding day. If you can leave your hair a day or two or more, you will need to wash your hair the night before.
How to wash your hair?
With a clarifying shampoo, and double shampoo your roots. Clarifying shampoos are great for removing any product build up and excessive oil on your scalp. This is going to ensure that your hair is super clean and ready for hairstyling.

Step 2:
You’ll need to condition your hair. It’s important to choose the right conditioner for your hair (read my blog if you’re unsure which to choose - https://www.louisedelaneybridalhair.com/post/are-you-using-the-right-shampoo-and-conditioner )
Run the conditioner through the ends of your hair, from your ear lobes down and leave in for a few minutes to really penetrate your hair. Then thoroughly wash it out using warm water and gently squeeze out any excess water using a towel (don’t rub – as this causes friction, frizz and damage)
Step 3:
Apply a heat protector throughout the lengths of your hair, such as Beauty Works Heat Protect Spray https://tidd.ly/4d8Vg3F

If your hair doesn’t hold a curl very well or is often quite silky and falls out of a style easily you need to add a hair mousse to your wet hair. This one from Living Proof is amazing https://tidd.ly/3Ug6QlY
Step 4:
Dry your hair as smooth as possible. To achieve this, leave your hair to air dry to about 80% (still damp but not wet) and dry your hair in sections with a brush. Take a section of hair that is no wider than your brush, pull to make tension and aim the hairdryer down the shaft of the hair. Repeat throughout the hair.
Step 5:
Now your hair is fully prepped and ready for styling you need to avoid ruining all your hard work! Avoid tying it up in a tight bobble or plaiting it. Instead use a silk bobble or a clip to loosely tie your hair up.
